Jonathan M P Howat D.C., D.I.C.S., F.I.C.S., F.C.C. (cranio), F.C.C. (paeds), F.B.C.A.
Doctor of Chiropractic Jonathan Howat graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, USA in June 1970 then returned to his homeland, Rhodesia, to practice with his father, David P Howat D.C., a Palmer graduate of 1938.
In 1975 he attended his first Sacro Occipital Technique seminar in Bexhill, England. This exposure to SOT as a "method of chiropractic" was an enlightening experience and provoked him to investigate further the work of Dr. Major Bertram DeJarnette., the founder and developer of Sacro Occipital Technique.
In 1985 Dr. Howat arrived in England to practice in Oxford.
Over the last 25 years Dr. Howat has become a leading exponent of SOT and Cranial lecturing, by invitation, in Japan, Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Holland, Italy and France to interested chiropractors.
He also takes an active part in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate groups including medical and dental as well as chiropractic students in Europe, the United Kingdom and the USA.
In 1985, he founded Sacro Occipital Technique Organisation (Europe) and in 1989, in order to further promote and teach all aspects of SOT, he formed Cranial Communications Systems and produced pamphlets, charts, videos and slide series to accompany his lectures and to educate patients.
He has been active in SOT politics having served as President of S.O.T.O. Europe, a member of the Board of Directors and Secretary/Treasurer of Sacro Occipital Research Society International (S.O.R.S.I.) and President of S.O.T.O. International.
In 1990 he was awarded "Chiropractor of the Year" by S.O.R.S.I. in recognition for services to the profession.
He has had papers published in dental, medical and chiropractic professional journals and is a contributing author in "Complementary Techniques in Dentistry".
His desire to make SOT available to the chiropractic profession in an understandable and comprehensive format lead to the publication of "Chiropractic: The Anatomy and Physiology of Sacro Occipital Technique"
Dr. Howat is a Diplomate of Craniopathy, a Fellow of the International Craniopathic Society, a Fellow of the College of Chiropractic, Chairman of S.O.T.O., Europe Education Committee and Dean of Academic Affairs for the Faculty of Craniopathy in the College of Chiropractic as well as practising SOT at his clinic in Oxford, England.
Two of his three children are studying to be chiropractors thus following the same profession for the third generation of the Howat family.
